Paper Wasp |
Polistes sp. |
|
Observed at Nairobi National Museum grounds, Kenya. Dec. 2015. |
Paper wasps construct nests from paper that the workers produce using chewed wood and salivary secretions. The adults wasps prey on insects and also bring nectar and pollen from flowers to feed the young within the papery cells. The specimen shown here was warming itself in the sunshine after a cool rainy morning. Its hunting proficiency will improve with a higher body temperature.
