Geometrid Moth |
Scopula (?) |
|
At lights, Eldoret, Kenya, Oct. 2016. |
A right hind wing of this moth has a piece broken out perhaps as it was escaping the beak of a bird. Adult Geometridae moths generally do not feed at all, not even taking nectar at flowers as many moths do. In addition the wings are very thin and fragile. Within a few days or a week after emerging from their pupa the wings become tattered and unable to support flight. During their short adult life they must mate and lay their eggs.
