Photographed near entrance to Nairobi National Park, Kenya. January 2012. |
Small to medium-sized tree with very curious-looking flowers and fruit. In the photo at left the bright yellow petals have already been shed leaving persistent yellow sepals. Later as the fruit matures and turns black the sepals remain and turn red. The leaves are dark green and rather sharply serrated. There are several species of Ochna present in Kenya. This one was medium-sized, about 8 m tall. Ochnaceae -- Ochna FamilyMore Information: |
