FLOWERS: Yellow-orange pea flowers borne in small clusters.

LEAVES: Leaves are pinnately divided into 14 to 40, small paired leaflets. Leaves and petioles are pubescent.

SHRUB or small TREE: Often with many branches arising from low on the main trunk. Branches and trunks are pithy. The twigs are also set with pubescence.

FRUIT: Bean pods with constrictions between the seeds and are covered with bristly hairs.

ARMED: Pairs of thorns at each node.
