Observed on the grounds of Ol'Tukai Lodge, Kenya. March 2011.

Unlike many other kinds kingfishers, this large, striking bird hunts away from water catching large insects and small reptiles instead. The grey head and chest, coppery belly, blue wing and bright red bill all serve to make this one of the easier Kenyan birds to recognize. It is relatively common in much of Kenya and Africa beyond.
