Zanzibar Sombre Greenbul

Andropadus importunus

Sombre Greenbul, Andropadus importunus, photo © by Michael Plagens

Photographed along the Indian Ocean coast near Watamu, Kenya. December 2011.

I only got one shot with my camera before this singing male greenbul flew. With a bright sky behind I ended up with poor lighting on my subject. When not singing these birds forage in dense vegetation for insects and other invertebrates. They also take fruit when it is available. Sombre Greenbul is common in thickets along the coast and inland.
